We were proud to have won our preliminaries performance as part of Sound Core's Battleground. In doing so, we've effectively advanced to the next round, the semi-finals. Yes, yes, we are indeed making our way. The top prize is a four-figure dollar amount in the form of Sound Core audio/music equipment. We know what you're thinking: "Guys, you'll have your guitar strings covered for life!" Good point. Not sure though - > we rock pretty hard and they break pretty often.       \m/ d - -b \m/

However, there's still a long way to go. If we were to chart out and bracket the structure of the contest it would look something like this:
Okay, okay, not really.

At any rate, an overwhelming sense of gratitude came upon us at Traz when, from our position on stage, we peered through the lights, lasers, and thick fog and saw your bright, smiley faces and undulating frames. From the bottom of our little pirouetting hearts, here's a sincere thank you from all of us to all of you: "<3"

If you'd be willing to stop by and show your support again during round two, we would absolutely love you for it. The show is once again at Club Traz on Thursday, April 19th. Cover will be $5 and the show will begin promptly at 8:30P.

Oh, yeah. And we GUARANTEE some new material.

Best,
The Pirouettes

_Hi, Friends!

We're excited to announce a brand new performance date.

On next Thursday, March 1st, we will be performing as part of Sound Core's Battleground series. The show is at Club Traz in Carbondale, IL. The night kicks off at 9:00PM (but it's always good to be a little early!) and the cover charge is $5. This is in fact a battle-of-the-bands-type competition, but we love the spirit of collaboration more, so we're happy to say that we are performing with two other talented bands, Perpetual Days & Skee. Check them out on the Facebook event page.

This will also mark the first time we've performed with a full band. We are REALLY excited to play our music for you in this format and are thankful to Andrew Wilson (drums) and Macklin Andrick (bass) for joining our ranks.

You can find the event on Facebook at this link. If you're a Facebook user and plan on attending, please support us by confirming yourself as "attending".

Thanks a million for your support and we hope to see you there!

We're proud to announce the addition of two new members: Andrew Wilson on drum kit and Macklin Andrick on bass guitar. Andrew is a multi-instrumentalist responsible for a body of work in which he sits behind a pretty massive array of music-making devices. Macklin rocks the upright bass at the SIUC School of Music -- all the while pursuing other extra-curricular musical opportunities.

Look for these two very talented individuals when as we perform live in the following months.

On this week's "People You Should Know" segment: Shara Worden.

Shara Worden's voice has always been an inspiration for both of us and no song better showcases the dynamic quality of her voice than "The Gentlest Gentleman". You might recognize her singing on records like The Decemberists' Hazards of Love or Sufjan Steven's Come On Feel The Illinoise and The Age Of Adz. We decided to show our appreciation in the form a video performance. "The Gentlest Gentleman" is on My Brightest Diamond's album A Thousand Shark's Teeth as a bonus track. I highly, highly recommend that tune, as well as their entire catalog, to any and all music lovers.

_This would be a good time to let y'all know what's in store for the coming months.

Recently, The Pirouettes have been hard at work, cutting an as of yet unnamed cover record. The LP will feature 9 or 10 songs that have had a direct influence on our music and songwriting. Although there are heaps and heaps of contemporary bands that continually inspire us (to which we owe a great debt), this record will focus primarily on earlier influences - mostly pre-1970. The first single will be a massive collaboration that will feature the talents of our many gifted friends and musicians, including Sarah Johnson and Gehring Miller of The Welcome, Amy Myers of Kid Tiger, Julie Popelka of Albatross, Alicia Walter of oshwa, and more. Stay tuned for a video release accompanying the single!

Following that release, The Pirouettes will begin work on a brand new EP of originals. Some of these songs are fairly close to being fully written. Others are incoherent TextEdit ramblings on Nick's Macbook. Naturally, we will keep you updated with the progress of that. Expect it in the coming months.

As always, thanks for listening.
